Ghana has taken a significant step toward becoming a continental tech and trade hub by signing a groundbreaking agreement to establish Africa’s largest digital free trade zone. The initiative aims to boost e-commerce, technology innovation, and regional economic integration.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Ghana’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Kojo Mensah, alongside representatives from major technology firms and several African governments.

“This digital free trade zone will remove barriers, simplify customs, and create an enabling environment for startups and established businesses alike,” Mensah said.
The project will focus on building digital infrastructure, harmonizing regulatory standards, and providing incentives for tech companies to operate across borders. It will also create thousands of jobs and increase access to global markets for African entrepreneurs.
Experts view the initiative as a key pillar in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) strategy, with Ghana positioning itself as a leader in Africa’s digital economy.
