He couldn’t swim but that didn’t stop him from jumping into the floodwaters. On Tuesday morning, 37-year-old Marcus Hill of Houston, Texas, saw a woman screaming as rising water swept away her car, her infant trapped inside. Witnesses say Marcus didn’t hesitate he dove into the water, smashed through the window, and managed to push the baby to safety before being pulled under himself.
He never came back up. What makes this even more heartbreaking? His family says Marcus had a lifelong fear of deep water and never once swam in his life.
“I begged him not to do it,” said his sister, Camille. “But that was Marcus. He never thought twice when someone needed help.”
Now, a GoFundMe has been set up to support his two children, ages 8 and 11. Heroes like Marcus rarely make the news but they deserve to be remembered.
