A video of an elderly Nigerian woman crying and pleading with national leaders about the situation of soldiers fighting insurgency has sparked widespread reactions across social media.
The emotional clip shows the woman, who identified herself as the mother of a soldier and the wife of a retired soldier, expressing deep pain over the conditions faced by troops currently fighting in the bush.
In the video, she said her son is among the soldiers deployed to combat terrorists and bandits, and she fears for his life. Speaking with a broken heart, she appealed to Nigerian leaders to do something about the growing number of soldiers reportedly being killed in the ongoing conflict.

“Our children are in the bush suffering. I even told my son that if he cannot continue, he should come back home. God will feed us,” she said in the video.
The video quickly went viral online and triggered strong reactions from Nigerians, including businessman and social commentator Isaac Fayose.
Reacting to the clip, Fayose criticized Nigeria’s political system, arguing that the burden of war is often carried by children from poor families.
“Nigerian politicians are positioning their children for better political opportunities, while the children of the poor are crying in the Sambisa Forest fighting wars,” Fayose said.
His statement referenced Sambisa Forest, a well-known area in northeastern Nigeria that has served as a major base for insurgent groups during the country’s long battle against terrorism.
For years, the Nigerian Armed Forces have conducted military operations in the region against extremist groups such as Boko Haram, with thousands of soldiers deployed to protect communities and reclaim territories.
The viral video and Fayose’s response have reopened conversations about the sacrifices made by Nigerian soldiers and the hardships faced by their families.
Many Nigerians online expressed sympathy for the elderly woman, while others used the moment to question whether enough is being done to support soldiers on the front lines.
At the same time, the discussion has highlighted broader concerns about inequality and the human cost of conflict, particularly for families whose loved ones serve in dangerous regions of the country.
As the video continues to circulate, it has become a powerful reminder of the emotional toll that years of insecurity have placed on military families and communities across Nigeria.
