The Government of Ghana has formally lodged a protest with António Guterres following an attack on Ghanaian peacekeeping troops serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon on March 6, 2026.
According to a letter sent by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana strongly condemned the assault, which left two Ghanaian soldiers seriously injured, and demanded a full, immediate, impartial, and transparent investigation.

The government stated that the attack constitutes a grave violation of international law and may even amount to a war crime, insisting that those responsible be identified and held accountable.
Ghana also called on the United Nations to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of Ghanaian troops and other peacekeepers under the mission.
This incident highlights the risks faced by peacekeeping personnel in conflict zones and raises questions about the protection mechanisms for UN troops in volatile regions.
