Texas Flood Death Toll Hits 120 as Search for 160 Missing Continues — Rescuers Hold Out Hope for Miracles

Nearly a week after devastating floods swept through Texas on July 4, the scale of the tragedy is becoming heartbreakingly clear. At least 120 people are confirmed dead, and another 160 remain missing, according to state officials.

More than 2,100 first responders are now working around the clock, combing through a search zone described by Kerrville’s police chief as “four times the size of Manhattan.” The rescue effort is grueling and emotional, as bodies continue to be recovered daily from the flood’s wreckage.

The last known living victim was found on the day of the flood, but even now, some on the ground refuse to give up hope.

“There could still be a survivor in there,” said Razor Dobbs, a 54-year-old volunteer firefighter from the small town of Center Point, just outside Kerrville. Speaking to DailyMail.com on Thursday, Dobbs added: “We’re still in rescue mode, and we’re not quitting until we find everybody.”

Dobbs has been a first responder for four years and has attended daily briefings with the Office of Emergency Management. He described the search as happening in stages “almost in layers” with crews first sweeping the surface and then returning to dig deeper.

The Texas flood is now being described as one of the deadliest natural disasters in the state’s modern history, with rainfall totals breaking records and floodwaters surging faster than many residents could react.

Rescue teams are working under extreme conditions, navigating debris, collapsed structures, and muddy waters, all while families anxiously wait for news. The community, however, remains unified in determination.

“There’s still a chance,” Dobbs insisted. “And until there’s no more hope, we’re going to keep looking.”
