“We’re done playing games,” said U.S. Trade Representative Monica Byrd during a press briefing. “You want access to the American market? Then put your best deal forward now.”

While Trump’s base views the move as another example of his “America First” policy in action, economists warn of serious consequences if the standoff escalates. The European Union has signaled it may respond with reciprocal tariffs, and Japan has reportedly paused trade talks until after the U.S. election cycle.

Business groups are urging caution, with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce warning that over 5 million jobs could be at risk if negotiations collapse.
Still, Trump remains undeterred. “If they don’t come to the table, we’ll shut the table down,” he posted on Truth Social.
