The fallout from last week’s horrifying firebomb attack in Boulder, Colorado continues to unfold, as federal authorities confirmed that the wife and five children of the main suspect have been taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The suspect, identified as Mahmoud Al-Sayeed, an Egyptian asylum seeker, allegedly threw a makeshift firebomb at a pro-Israel gathering, injuring several demonstrators. He is currently in FBI custody and facing federal terrorism and attempted murder charges.
According to ICE, the family had been residing in the U.S. under temporary protected status. That status is now being reviewed under national security grounds. Immigration officials have initiated deportation proceedings citing “public safety concerns.”

Civil liberties advocates and immigration attorneys have called the detentions unjust, accusing the government of using guilt by association. “They are not suspects. They are relatives. This is collective punishment,” said Carlos Gutierrez, an attorney representing the family.
Meanwhile, federal officials maintain that national security must come first. “We’re operating with an abundance of caution. These are extraordinary times,” a DHS spokesperson said.
The case has reignited debates over refugee vetting, anti-Semitism, and public protest safety across the United States.
