In a fiery and impassioned statement this week, legendary actor and outspoken political critic Robert De Niro took fresh aim at former President Donald J. Trump, calling him “the most talkative and least effective leader America has ever had.”
De Niro, long known for his candid political commentary, didn’t hold back in his remarks, which came during a speech at the annual Civic Integrity Forum in Manhattan. According to the Oscar-winning actor, Trump’s legacy is one of “big talk, no action” a trail of empty promises, billionaire propaganda, and manipulative rhetoric that has done more harm than good to American democracy.
“This guy talks and talks and talks,” De Niro said, “but every time he opens his mouth, he proves how little he actually knows about what’s happening in this country. He’s a master of distraction big flashy deals no one can verify, media bashing, and all smoke, no fire.”

But critics argue these claims are rarely backed by evidence and serve more to feed his loyal base than offer real solutions to everyday Americans.
De Niro accused Trump of deliberately eroding trust in American journalism and institutions:
“He calls the press fake just because they ask hard questions. That’s what journalists are supposed to do hold power accountable. But to Trump, accountability is a threat. He’s trying to destroy the very foundations that built this nation just so people will call him ‘the best.’”
The actor warned that such behavior is “dangerous,” likening it to the tactics used by authoritarian regimes to silence dissent and spread propaganda.
