In a rare moment of diplomacy, Russia and Ukraine have reportedly completed a large-scale prisoner exchange, with hundreds of captives returned to their respective homelands. The swap was confirmed by Donald Trump, who claimed U.S. diplomatic back-channel efforts made it possible.
Ukraine’s military intelligence said the swap is still ongoing but welcomed the partial release of over 100 Ukrainian soldiers. Russia’s Defense Ministry shared images of returning troops and called it a “gesture of mutual interest.”
This marks the first major exchange since late 2024 and could signal a slight thaw in relations after years of conflict. Analysts remain skeptical about a broader peace deal.
