Top Iranian and American diplomats are meeting in Rome this week for the fifth round of nuclear negotiations, aiming to reduce tensions and prevent a new arms race in the Middle East.
The talks, hosted at a secret location in Italy’s capital, are being closely watched by EU nations, Israel, and Gulf allies. Iran seeks sanctions relief, while the U.S. demands deeper inspection access and a cap on uranium enrichment.
Although both sides have denied direct conflict in recent months, this is the first high-level diplomatic contact since early 2024. No breakthrough is expected immediately, but the talks signal both countries are seeking alternatives to war.
