In Abuja today, President Bola Tinubu addressed growing criticism over Nigeria’s 2025 budget, particularly the planned borrowing strategies. Speaking at a press briefing, Tinubu stressed that borrowing, when managed responsibly, is a necessary financial instrument to close Nigeria’s infrastructure gap and spur economic growth.
“Borrowing is not a crime,” Tinubu said. “It is a vital tool that governments worldwide use to fund development projects. What matters is transparency, accountability, and ensuring borrowed funds deliver value for Nigerians.”
The President also highlighted the upcoming Democracy Walk scheduled for May 29, 2025, to commemorate 25 years of uninterrupted democratic rule in Nigeria. The event will bring together political leaders, civil society, and citizens in Abuja to celebrate Nigeria’s democratic progress and renew commitments to good governance.
