In a move shaking Nigeria’s political landscape, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai officially announced his defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). El-Rufai cited ideological differences and the need for a fresh political vision as reasons for his decision.
“The APC no longer reflects my values or vision for Nigeria,” El-Rufai said at a press conference in Kaduna. “The SDP offers a platform for real change and inclusivity.”
Political analysts predict that El-Rufai’s defection could trigger further party shifts ahead of the 2027 general elections and potentially strengthen the SDP’s influence nationally.
