Tensions surrounding the trial of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu resurfaced in court as his legal team reminded the Federal High Court of a previous ₦1 billion compensation ruling against the government.
Kanu’s lawyer cited the illegal 2017 military invasion of Kanu’s home, arguing that the federal government must first obey past court rulings before pressing new charges.
“You can’t continue trying someone while ignoring a court judgment in his favor,” the lawyer said.
The renewed call has triggered debate about judicial integrity, political persecution, and the government’s handling of the case.
