The security crisis in northeast Nigeria intensified on Tuesday as four Nigerian soldiers lost their lives in a surprise raid on a military base in Borno State.
The attack, which has been linked to suspected jihadist militants, occurred during the early hours, catching troops off guard.
According to military sources, the insurgents arrived in multiple vehicles and opened heavy fire, forcing a temporary retreat by the soldiers.
Although reinforcements were quickly deployed, the ambush led to the tragic deaths and left several others injured.
Borno, the epicenter of Nigeria’s long-standing battle against terrorism, continues to face relentless assaults despite increased security presence.
Authorities say counter-insurgency operations are ongoing in the region to track down the attackers.
