The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) announced a major security breakthrough this weekend, revealing that operatives had intercepted 65 stolen vehicles from Canada and seized over 1,000 parcels of hard narcotics at key entry points across Lagos and Ogun States.
According to Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the stolen luxury cars were discovered inside three containers falsely declared as auto parts. The discovery was made during a targeted intelligence operation in collaboration with INTERPOL and the Canadian authorities.
“The vehicles had their chassis numbers altered and were part of a sophisticated transnational theft syndicate,” Adeniyi told journalists in Apapa. “We are determined to end Nigeria’s reputation as a destination for stolen foreign vehicles.”

In a related operation at the Tin Can Island Port, Customs agents uncovered hidden parcels of Methamphetamine and Tramadol concealed in industrial spare parts. The drugs are estimated to be worth over N3.2 billion in street value.
Two Nigerian nationals and one foreign accomplice have been arrested in connection with the seizures and are being held by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
This comes amid growing concerns over Nigeria’s use as a transit point for both stolen goods and narcotics. Customs pledged to increase surveillance and enhance port security technology as part of ongoing reforms.
