Police in Katsina State have launched a full-scale investigation after a tragic incident in which a woman allegedly stabbed her co-wife to death during a domestic altercation in the Kankia Local Government Area.
According to the Katsina State Police Command, the suspect, whose name is being withheld pending further questioning, reportedly attacked her fellow wife following an argument over household responsibilities and their husband’s attention.
Witnesses say the women had a history of tension, but no one expected it would end in bloodshed. The deceased, aged 28, died at the scene before emergency services arrived.

“This is a shocking reminder of the emotional toll that unresolved jealousy and domestic tensions can take, especially in polygamous households,” said a local women’s rights advocate, Zainab Garba.
The suspect was apprehended at the residence and is currently in police custody at the Kankia Divisional Police Station. Authorities say she will be charged with culpable homicide once the investigation concludes.
The police have urged families and religious leaders to continue promoting peaceful conflict resolution in homes, especially among co-wives in polygamous settings.
