President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed confidence that more prominent political figures will defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the 2027 general elections draw closer. Speaking to a group of party stakeholders at a strategic consultation meeting in Abuja on Thursday, Tinubu said the APC’s growing national appeal and record of governance would naturally attract fresh political alliances.
The president, who was recently endorsed by all 22 APC governors as the party’s sole presidential candidate for the 2027 polls, stated that “a wave of defections is imminent,” pointing to internal discontent within opposition parties and what he described as “a clear difference in leadership vision.”

“As we consolidate our progress and deepen our democratic structure, Nigerians both leaders and citizens are beginning to understand where true political stability and development reside,” Tinubu said. “APC is that vehicle, and I am confident that by 2027, more patriots will join us to secure the future of this country.”
While he did not name any specific politicians expected to switch camps, sources within the APC have hinted that talks are ongoing with key figures from both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other emerging political movements.
Political analysts say Tinubu’s statement may be part of a broader campaign strategy to project momentum and dominate the narrative leading into what is expected to be a fiercely contested election season.

Opposition leaders have criticized the statement as “premature political boasting,” arguing that the ruling party should focus more on governance and national issues rather than political arithmetic.
With the 2027 race already beginning to take shape, Tinubu’s remarks underscore the high-stakes political maneuvering expected in the months ahead.
