Blood flowed again in the Middle Belt region as more than 40 people were killed in coordinated attacks across several villages in Benue State. The assailants, suspected guy to be armed herdsmen, invaded Gwer West and parts of Makurdi, setting homes ablaze and shooting at fleeing villagers.

Governor Hyacinth Alia, in a strongly worded statement, described the assault as “genocidal” and urged the federal government to take immediate action to prevent Benue from becoming a war zone.
Local security forces say patrols have been intensified, but residents insist that more proactive protection is needed.
