A military airstrike intended to neutralize terrorist elements in Zamfara State has ended in tragedy, as at least 20 civilians were reportedly killed in the operation. The incident occurred in the Dansadau area of Maru Local Government late Monday evening.
Eyewitnesses said the Nigerian Air Force jet dropped multiple bombs on a location believed to be a terrorist hideout. However, one of the bombs landed in a local market filled with traders and residents, leading to a devastating loss of lives.

“I saw limbs flying. People were running, screaming, and some were trapped under burning debris,” said Ibrahim Sule, a survivor who lost two family members in the blast.
The Defence Headquarters has not issued an official statement as of press time, but local leaders have condemned the incident and are calling for a full-scale investigation. Rights activists say the recurring pattern of collateral damage in military operations demands urgent reforms.
