Man Seen With Possible Bomb in Small U.S. Town — Locals Say He Ran When Approached

Residents of this small American town were left shaken early Tuesday morning after a man suspected of carrying a bomb was spotted walking along South Main Street, near Dog River Park.

According to a local eyewitness who spoke exclusively to DOB Blog under the condition of anonymity, the man described as appearing Arab was wearing a thick, oversized coat despite the warm weather, with something heavy and square shaped visibly underneath.

He didn’t look like he belonged here, the witness said. He kept looking around like he was paranoid. The thing under his coat didn’t move like a bag it looked hard, like a box or something strapped to his chest. It scared me.

Around 7:10 a.m., a few local men tried to approach the man, thinking he might be in distress or need help. But the moment he noticed people walking toward him, he turned and bolted toward the wooded trail behind Norwich University.

He didn’t say a word. He just ran fast like he was hiding something, said one of the locals who tried to talk to him. As of now, the man has not been located, we have not confirmed what the man was carrying, all residents to stay aware and report anything unusual.

No injuries have been reported, and no devices have been found so far. Northfield is a quiet American town with just under 6,000 residents. Incidents like this are extremely rare, making this morning’s scare even more unsettling.

I’ve lived here all my life, said one resident. We don’t see things like this in Vermont. It’s terrifying to think something like that could happen right here in our own town.
