India’s highly anticipated Axiom-4 space mission, which would send the country’s second-ever astronaut into orbit, has been postponed for the fifth time this time over “technical coordination delays,” officials confirmed today.
Originally slated for April, then pushed to June, the launch is now rescheduled for late August. The delay deals a blow to India’s growing ambitions in the private space sector, especially as the U.S., China, and the UAE continue launching missions without pause.
The astronaut chosen for Axiom-4, former Air Force commander Deepak Sharma, remains in training but expressed frustration: “We are ready. It’s the politics and policy that aren’t.”
As the space race re-emerges as a stage for global influence, India finds itself juggling domestic pressures and international expectations.
