A group of Syrian construction workers stumbled upon a centuries-old treasure last week a fully intact Byzantine tomb complex hidden beneath rubble in the old city of Aleppo.
Experts believe the tomb, adorned with frescoes and inscriptions, dates back to the 5th century and belonged to a noble Christian family. The discovery comes as the city struggles to rebuild from years of war and destruction.
UNESCO has sent a team to oversee preservation efforts, calling the find “a rare and precious piece of human history.”
The tomb is expected to become a major archaeological attraction and a symbol of hope for Syria’s cultural revival.
