The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dramatically withdrawn from all agreements aimed at resolving the lingering crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing betrayal and political sabotage by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
Speaking during a press briefing at the FCT Secretariat on Sunday, Wike accused Makinde of “playing double politics” and undermining reconciliation efforts that began in early 2024.
“I have made it clear: I will not sit at the table with men who speak unity in the morning and fuel division at night,” Wike declared. “Governor Makinde has turned this crisis into a personal chess game.”
The PDP, once Nigeria’s dominant political party, has faced internal strife following the 2023 general election, which saw regional leaders and presidential hopefuls at odds over control, strategy, and future alliances. Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and a key powerbroker, had been part of a special peace committee that met repeatedly with PDP governors and national executives.

Party insiders confirmed that tensions peaked after Makinde allegedly met privately with leaders from rival parties without informing other committee members a move Wike interpreted as bad faith.
Governor Makinde has yet to publicly respond to the accusations, but a senior official from the Oyo State Government House told Dobblog anonymously, “Wike is trying to control every narrative. Governor Makinde believes in unity, not dictatorship.”
The PDP’s National Executive Council is expected to meet later this week to address the growing fallout. Political observers warn that if Wike walks away for good, it could further weaken the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
