Atiku, Peter Obi, Amaechi’s Coalition Meeting Ends in Chaos After Jigawa Delegates Clash

A high-stakes coalition meeting between Nigeria’s top political heavyweights Atiku AbubakarPeter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi ended in dramatic fashion on Saturday after delegates from Jigawa State disrupted the session, throwing the event into disarray and derailing delicate alliance talks.

The meeting, held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, was intended to explore a historic merger between elements of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and factions of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election.

Tensions reportedly began brewing when a group of delegates loyal to a northern PDP powerbroker insisted that the presidential ticket must be zoned to the North. This was met with fierce opposition from Labour Party representatives, many of whom back Peter Obi for a second run.

Multiple eyewitnesses confirmed that raised voices quickly turned into a full blown shouting match, with chairs nearly thrown before security intervened.

A source within Obi’s camp, who requested anonymity, said, “We came here to negotiate ideas, but some people are obsessed with personal power. Obi is not desperate.”

Amaechi, who was expected to broker middle ground terms, walked out of the meeting early after reportedly expressing frustration with the tone of discussions.

The scene has sparked reactions on social media, with some users saying it proves the Nigerian opposition remains fractured and unprepared to mount a serious challenge in 2027.

Despite the setback, a joint press release issued hours later claimed that “dialogue remains open,” but political analysts say the events of Saturday may have severely undermined public confidence in the proposed alliance.
