The U.S. government has issued a stern warning to academic institutions nationwide, accusing the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) of infiltrating universities to steal research and manipulate intellectual discourse.
In a strongly worded statement, Secretary of Education Laura Gutierrez announced new federal oversight for research grants, foreign partnerships, and technology transfers involving Chinese nationals. “America’s classrooms must remain places of free inquiry not channels for foreign espionage,” she said.

This follows multiple FBI investigations revealing covert funding and data siphoning from elite research campuses. Some Chinese scholars have already been deported, and several partnerships have been dissolved quietly.
University leaders are caught in a difficult position: defending academic openness while complying with new federal rules. “This is a pivotal moment,” said Dr. Michael Andrews of MIT. “We must guard both our values and our science.”
