Minister of Works Dave Umahi has made a bold declaration that all five governors in Nigeria’s South-East region are standing solidly behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, setting the stage for 2027 political alignments.
Speaking at a road inspection tour in Enugu, Umahi said, “There’s no doubt anymore. The South-East is not sitting on the fence. Our leaders are fully in support of the President and the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
He further urged political figures, particularly Peter Obi, to align with Tinubu’s vision instead of working against it. “This is not the time for division. Nigeria needs unity, and we in the South-East are ready to work hand-in-hand with this administration,” he said.

The statement has stirred political debate across the region, with many questioning whether support from governors truly represents the sentiment of the people.
Critics argue that the endorsement may not reflect the grassroots mood, especially considering the region’s historical voting patterns. But Umahi insists the South-East has much to gain by cooperating with Tinubu’s government.
