In the most intense aerial assault since the outbreak of the Ukraine conflict, Russian forces launched a massive airstrike campaign targeting multiple strategic locations across Ukraine on May 25. The coordinated attack involved over 150 aircraft, including fighter jets, bombers, and drones, marking a significant escalation in the war’s intensity.
Ukrainian air defense units reported that the strikes targeted key infrastructure such as power grids, military bases, and transportation hubs in eastern and southern regions. The capital Kyiv also experienced intermittent missile alarms, with some missile debris falling in surrounding districts, causing property damage but no confirmed casualties.
Military analysts believe this large-scale attack aims to weaken Ukraine’s defensive capabilities ahead of anticipated ground offensives, while also attempting to disrupt the country’s energy supply ahead of the summer months, when electricity demand typically surges.

The Ukrainian military responded with intensified anti-aircraft fire and mobilized reserve forces to reinforce vulnerable areas. President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack as “a brutal attempt to break the will of the Ukrainian people” and called for increased international support.
Global reactions were swift, with the United States and European Union issuing statements condemning the escalation and pledging additional military and humanitarian aid. NATO increased its readiness status, while Russia defended the strikes as “necessary defensive measures” against alleged Ukrainian provocations.
