Severe storms ravaged Pakistan’s Punjab province on May 24 and 25, leaving at least 18 people dead and nearly 100 injured, local officials reported. Torrential rains, accompanied by powerful winds and hail, caused widespread destruction in several districts including Lahore, Faisalabad, and Multan.
Emergency response teams are struggling to reach remote villages where homes have been flattened, roads washed away, and communication lines disrupted. The floods have also inundated agricultural fields, threatening crops vital to the region’s economy.
Rescue operations continue as authorities work to evacuate trapped residents and provide emergency shelter. Hospitals in affected areas are overwhelmed with injuries ranging from fractures to hypothermia.
Meteorologists warn that these storms are part of an increasingly erratic weather pattern attributed to climate change, which is causing more intense and unpredictable monsoons in South Asia.

The provincial government has declared a state of emergency and called for national and international aid. Relief organizations have mobilized food, clean water, and medical supplies to assist displaced families.
Local residents expressed both shock and resilience. “We have seen storms before, but nothing like this,” said Rashid Ahmed, a farmer in Faisalabad. “We pray for help and hope to rebuild our lives soon.”
