In a landmark ruling, a Nigerian court has sentenced 15 foreign nationals including 11 Filipinos and 4 other Asians to multiple years in prison for their role in a sprawling cybercrime operation based in Nigeria.
Authorities say the group ran fraudulent internet scams, including email phishing, romance cons, and identity theft targeting victims across Europe and North America.
“These are not amateurs. They were running a digital crime syndicate,” said EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede. “We are sending a clear message: Nigeria will not be a playground for cybercriminals.”

The defendants were arrested earlier this year following coordinated raids in Lagos and Port Harcourt, where laptops, routers, forged documents, and cryptocurrency wallets were seized.
The case is being hailed as a milestone in Nigeria’s cybercrime enforcement, especially as the government tries to shed the country’s image as a hub for digital fraud.
