Abuja, Nigeria Civic tech group BudgIT Nigeria has raised alarm over what it describes as an overwhelming number of “inserted” projects in Nigeria’s 2025 budget. According to their latest findings, a staggering 11,122 projects valued at ₦6.93 trillion were added by the National Assembly, sparking fresh concerns about transparency, accountability, and the integrity of the national budget process.
The report, released Tuesday, outlines how the insertions often referred to as “constituency projects” are growing in both scale and cost, with minimal oversight on implementation and value for money.

BudgIT warns that many of these projects lack clarity, duplication exists, and several fall outside the scope of federal responsibilities, calling them “budgetary anomalies.”
“The continuous and unchecked insertion of opaque projects dilutes the budget’s effectiveness and undermines national development priorities,” BudgIT stated.
This revelation is expected to fuel public criticism of the budgeting process, especially as Nigerians grapple with rising debt, inflation, and minimal improvements in infrastructure and public services.
Meanwhile, calls are growing for President Bola Tinubu’s administration to review and sanitize the 2025 budget before it is fully implemented.
As questions mount over how and why lawmakers inserted over ₦6.9 trillion worth of projects nearly one-third of the total budget analysts say this could trigger further scrutiny by anti corruption agencies and civil society watchdogs.
