Naples erupted in celebration and so did Lagos as Italian football club Napoli was officially crowned champions of the 2024/2025 Serie A season after a commanding 3–1 victory over Roma. The title marks Napoli’s third Serie A triumph and the first in nearly two decades.
Leading the charge was none other than Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen, whose 22 goals this season made him not just the league’s top scorer but also a national icon. From Ikeja to Owerri, jubilant fans danced in the streets, waving flags and chanting his name.
In a post-match interview, Osimhen dedicated the title to the people of Nigeria. “This is for every kid who kicks a ball barefoot in the streets of Lagos or Enugu. Dreams do come true,” he said emotionally.

President Bola Tinubu sent a congratulatory message to Osimhen and Napoli, praising their “courage, teamwork, and exceptional talent.” The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) also announced it would organize a nationwide youth football tournament in Osimhen’s honor later this year.
Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti praised the striker’s leadership on and off the pitch, saying, “Victor has the heart of a lion and the grace of a champion. This title is partly his.”
