“He Tried to Kill Me!” - Survivor of Liverpool Ramming Attack Recounts Harrowing Ordeal After Being Mowed Down by Car

A man who narrowly survived a terrifying ramming attack in Liverpool has come forward with a chilling firsthand account of the incident, describing it as a deliberate attempt on his life. The victim, 31 year old Marcus Ellison, said the driver who ploughed into him on Sunday afternoon was “looking him dead in the eyes” moments before accelerating.

“He tried to kill me no doubt in my mind,” Ellison told Dobblog from his hospital bed at Royal Liverpool University Hospital, where he’s being treated for multiple fractures and internal bruising. “This wasn’t an accident. He knew what he was doing.”

The shocking attack occurred just after 2:00 p.m. near the busy Smithdown Road area, as pedestrians walked through local shops and cafés. Witnesses say the car, a dark colored Vauxhall Astra, mounted the pavement at high speed before striking Ellison and narrowly missing several others.

“I saw him flying through the air it was horrible,” said local shopkeeper Abdi Noor, who rushed to help Ellison in the aftermath. “The driver didn’t even slow down. He just sped off like nothing happened.”

Emergency services arrived within minutes, and police launched a citywide manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large. Detectives have since recovered CCTV footage showing the vehicle circling the block minutes before the attack.

Merseyside Police confirmed they are treating the incident as an attempted murder. “This was a targeted and deliberate act,” said Detective Chief Inspector Rachel Adams. “We are actively pursuing several leads and urge the public to come forward with any information, no matter how small.”

According to Ellison, there may have been prior tension between him and the suspect, whom he believes he may recognize. “It’s someone I’ve had issues with in the past,” he said, though police have not yet confirmed any motive or identified a suspect publicly.

The incident has sparked outrage across Liverpool, with community leaders calling for greater street safety and more CCTV in high-footfall areas. Local MP Claire Murphy condemned the attack, saying, “This level of violence in broad daylight is unacceptable. We need swift justice and increased protection for our citizens.”

Meanwhile, Ellison is recovering but remains mentally shaken. “Every time I close my eyes, I see that car coming at me,” he said. “I’m lucky to be alive, but I want justice for me and for the next person who might not walk away.”
