Massive floods have swept through communities in Kwara and Niger states, wiping out rice farms and forcing families to flee their homes. The flooding, triggered by the sudden release of water from the Jebba Dam, has left widespread destruction in its path.

Local farmers say over 30 communities have lost their crops, with many now facing food insecurity and financial ruin. At least 13 people are confirmed dead, and dozens more are missing or injured.
“We watched everything wash away in one night,” said a resident from Patigi, Kwara. “No one warned us.”

Despite the growing crisis, there has been no visible government response as of this morning. Many are calling for immediate emergency aid and long-term flood control plans before more lives and livelihoods are lost.
