According to Reuters Jerusalem bureau chief Rami Ayyub, subtle differences are emerging between the United States and Israel over how to approach the ongoing war with Iran. While both countries have carried out coordinated military actions, Ayyub told Reuters that private Israeli discussions suggest Tel Aviv may be more comfortable with a certain level of post‑war unrest inside Iran if it helps weaken the regime and opens the door for internal change.
In contrast, U.S. officials are reportedly more cautious about the idea of prolonged chaos, given the potential regional and global consequences, including disruptions to global oil markets and broader geopolitical instability. This reflects diverging end‑state strategies between two key allies engaged in one of the most consequential conflicts of 2026.
