Danish public broadcaster DR says it has reviewed a military operations order dated 13 January that described an operation organising the defence of Greenland, and served as the basis for deploying troops and supplies to the Arctic territory in January 2026.
According to DR’s report, the order came amid rising concerns about Greenland’s security following what was seen as provocative rhetoric from the United States over the island’s future. Danish troops were sent with supplies including blood reserves and demolitions equipment, according to anonymous sources, suggesting readiness for a range of escalation scenarios.
The deployment also included NATO allies operating under a military exercise known as Operation Arctic Endurance, which brought forces from France, Germany, Sweden and others to Greenland, boosting visibility and readiness in the region.
Denmark’s Defence Ministry and government have not officially commented on the broadcaster’s report, and the situation remains sensitive given the strategic significance of Greenland in Arctic geopolitics.
