The FBI Miami Field Office has announced a federal jury conviction against Stevenson Charles, a federal inmate currently serving a life sentence, for his role in a violent scheme to abduct and rob a rideshare driver.
The crime occurred while Charles was attempting to flee Georgia state custody. During this escape, Charles and his accomplices allegedly targeted a rideshare driver, putting the driver’s life at serious risk. The case underscores the dangers posed by violent offenders who exploit opportunities while evading law enforcement.
“This conviction demonstrates our commitment to protecting the public and holding violent offenders accountable,” an FBI spokesperson said.

The federal jury found Charles guilty of conspiracy to commit kidnapping and robbery. He now faces additional sentencing in federal court. Authorities emphasized that cooperation between state and federal law enforcement was crucial to investigating and prosecuting the crime.
This case also highlights ongoing concerns around rideshare safety, a growing issue in major U.S. cities, and reinforces the importance of reporting suspicious activity. The FBI continues to work closely with both state authorities and rideshare companies to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers.
