Trump Forgets He Appointed Jerome Powell — Then Blames Biden For It

In a moment that’s raising fresh concerns about his memory and focus, President Donald Trump appeared to forget that he was the one who appointed Jerome Powell as Chair of the Federal Reserve.

Speaking at a press event on Wednesday, Trump launched into a criticism of Powell’s economic leadership, calling him a “terrible Fed chair” and adding, “I was surprised Biden put him in and extended him.”

But there’s one problem: It wasn’t President Biden who put Powell in that role it was Trump himself. Back in November 2017, during his first term, Trump nominated Powell to lead the Fed, replacing Janet Yellen.

The clip quickly spread across social media, with political commentators and journalists pointing out the irony and confusion in Trump’s remarks. It comes just days after reports revealed that Trump had drafted a secret letter to fire Powell and has been asking Republican allies if he should go through with it.

This isn’t the first mental misstep for the president. Earlier this month, Trump veered off topic while discussing detention policies, launching into an unrelated story about summer vacation plans. And last year, he famously mixed up Nancy Pelosi and Nikki Haley at a campaign rally.

As Trump enters the latter half of his second term, many are asking: is this just classic Trump showmanship, or are we witnessing signs of something deeper?

Either way, moments like this are getting harder for the public and even his supporters to ignore.
