Protests in Los Angeles over immigration enforcement have now drawn in the U.S. military. President Trump ordered 7,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines into the city, calling the situation “a foreign invasion of American soil.”
What began as peaceful demonstrations over ICE raids turned tense when troops arrived in full combat gear. Local leaders are furious.
“This is not a war zone,” said LA Mayor Karen Bass. “This is our community, and it needs healing, not occupation.”
Social media erupted with images of tanks on city streets, reviving fears of authoritarianism and reminding many of the George Floyd-era protests only now, the stakes feel even higher.
