A viral TikTok has reignited the debate about Sean “Diddy” Combs’ true role in the success of the vodka brand Ciroc and it’s got people questioning everything they thought they knew about celebrity liquor empires.
The fan behind the buzz is TikTok user @JayBoogie, who didn’t hold back when he said:
“I ain’t drink Ciroc till Diddy got on it. Matter of fact, many of us didn’t even know what Ciroc was till Diddy pulled up.”
That comment alone has sparked thousands of replies, shares, and duets, with many agreeing that Diddy didn’t just promote Ciroc — he became Ciroc.
But here’s the kicker: Diddy didn’t create Ciroc. The ultra-premium vodka was founded by beverage giant Diageo back in 2003, and it struggled to gain traction in the U.S. market… until Diddy came along.

In 2007, Diddy entered into a marketing partnership with Diageo. Under the deal, he didn’t own the brand, but he got a hefty share of the profits in exchange for acting as its public face. And face it he did turning Ciroc into a symbol of luxury, nightlife, and hip-hop status.
“Diddy sold a lifestyle, not just a drink,” one user commented.
Another added, “He made people believe it was his, and that was the genius.”
So while Diddy didn’t invent Ciroc, many fans argue he did something even bigger he made it matter.
Still, the viral debate exposes a growing conversation about the difference between owning a brand and building its legacy. In the world of celebrity influence, perception often becomes reality.
