In what some are calling political suicide, Republican Congressman Mark Ellison praised former President Barack Obama during a live television interview.
“I may not agree with all his policies,” Ellison said. “But Obama was a man of integrity. I miss that in politics.”
Social media exploded.
By the next day, Ellison’s district GOP leadership had voted to withdraw their endorsement, citing “a betrayal of party values.” The move cost him his seat a position he held for three terms.
Ellison’s response?
“If telling the truth costs me my job, then I never really had freedom in it anyway.”
The story has reignited national conversation about blind party loyalty and whether truth still has a place in American politics.
Some are calling Ellison a traitor. Others, a patriot. One thing’s for sure honesty still shocks people.
