While Americans debate inflation and culture wars, one foreign superpower has been quietly purchasing influence across the U.S. from farmland to data centers.
That country is China.
A new report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture revealed that Chinese entities now control over 384,000 acres of American agricultural land, a number that has tripled in the past decade. Much of it surrounds sensitive military installations or food production zones.
It doesn’t stop at farms. Chinese investors have also sunk billions into U.S. tech companies, AI startups, and even Hollywood studios. In many cases, the ownership is obscured through shell companies, joint ventures, or proxy investors.
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are calling for stricter controls, but critics say the horse has already left the barn.
“This isn’t just about land,” said Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI). “It’s about data, influence, and control over strategic U.S. infrastructure.”
