You pay more. You get less. And unless you’re in the top 1%, the U.S. healthcare system might be designed to fail you.
America spends over $4.5 trillion annually on healthcare more than any country in the world. Yet outcomes continue to decline:
• Lower life expectancy than peer nations
• Skyrocketing insulin prices despite manufacturing costs under $5
• Bankruptcy from medical debt is now the leading cause of personal financial collapse
A 2025 study by Johns Hopkins found that 1 in 3 Americans avoids care due to cost, even with insurance.
Even worse, hospital billing is intentionally opaque. Two patients getting the same surgery in the same hospital may be billed wildly different amounts, depending on insurance deals.
Dr. Mia Travers, a former ER physician, put it plainly: “The system doesn’t care if you live or die it only cares if you can pay.”
As Congress debates yet another round of insurance lobbying-backed reforms, ordinary Americans are asking: Why is healthcare a human right everywhere except here?
