Confusion reigns across the U.S. as the Trump administration’s new student loan policies have left millions of borrowers unsure of when and how to resume payments.
The Education Department’s rollout of a redesigned income-based repayment plan has been plagued by technical delays and poor communication. While payments remain paused, interest continues to accumulate for many.
“This limbo is financially devastating,” said Tara Nguyen, a 33-year-old teacher in Seattle. “I’ve budgeted for payments, but there’s no guidance.”
Consumer advocates are urging the administration to provide clearer timelines. Meanwhile, Republican lawmakers defend the changes as part of a broader plan to “fix the student loan crisis through personal responsibility.”
