In a fiery off-stage comment captured after a recent concert in Lagos, Kuti did not hold back.
“Stop praising yourself you’re nothing but a piece of shit! Since you became Nigeria’s president, what have you done for this nation? People are dying, starving, and you’re busy posting achievements that only exist on paper!”

The remarks, now trending across Nigerian social media under hashtags like #FemiKutiSpeaks and #StopPraisingYourself, have ignited both outrage and applause.
Kuti, son of the legendary Fela Anikulapo Kuti, is no stranger to political confrontation. Known for his fearless activism and blunt truth-telling, he’s often used his platform to call out corruption, impunity, and failed leadership in Nigeria.
“The streets are crying, the youths are hopeless, and the government keeps lying,” he continued. “If you truly love Nigeria, stop the lies and do the work or get out of the way.”

Political allies of the president have since condemned Kuti’s language, calling it “disrespectful” and “unpatriotic,” but many Nigerians say the Afrobeat icon only voiced what millions are feeling.
“Femi just said what’s on everyone’s mind,” wrote one X user. “If telling the truth makes you unpatriotic, then we’re all guilty.”
In a country where speaking out can come with serious risks, Femi Kuti’s boldness is both rare and revolutionary reminding the world that art and activism still walk hand in hand in Nigeria.
