Southern Europe is boiling and this time, it’s not a figure of speech. From Spain to Turkey, temperatures are smashing records, with parts of Spain reaching 46°C (115°F). In Italy, emergency crews are handing out water in the streets, and in Turkey, wildfires are ravaging the Izmir region, forcing evacuations and destroying homes.
Hospitals in France and Greece are reporting surges in heatstroke cases. Crops in Italy’s wine regions are withering, and cities are bracing for blackouts as A/C demand explodes.

“This is not just summer it’s survival,” said one Italian meteorologist.
With July yet to begin, officials across Europe are issuing red alerts and bracing for even worse days ahead. Climate activists are using the moment to push harder for carbon reforms, but for now, Europe is simply trying to stay cool any way it can.
