After years of sleeping in his truck, Chris Holloway, a Purple Heart recipient, finally got approved for public housing in Jacksonville, Florida.
But when he showed up with Ranger, his service dog trained to detect PTSD episodes, he was turned away. Why? “No pets allowed.”
Chris tried to explain Ranger isn’t a pet. He’s medical support. But rules are rules, the housing manager said.
Now, Chris is back in his truck and Ranger, as always, is right beside him.
I didn’t fight for this country to be treated like an inconvenience, Chris said. He’s the reason I’m still alive.
Local veterans groups are demanding an investigation. But the damage and the humiliation is done.
