Jacqueline Reed, 52 year old woman, wasn’t feeling well. Her chest was tight, and she was short of breath. Her daughter rushed her to the ER in Milwaukee, but they were told the hospital was “at capacity.”
So she waited in a hallway chair. For hours. By the time a nurse came over with a stretcher, Jacqueline was unconscious. She never woke up.
Doctors said it was a heart attack. Her family says it was neglect.

We were begging them to check her, her daughter said, sobbing. We kept saying something wasn’t right. They told us to sit tight.
Now, the family is suing the hospital and demanding state lawmakers investigate how emergency care collapsed under budget cuts, overbooking, and hospital closures in lower income areas.
She didn’t die from a heart problem, her son said. She died waiting to be believed.
