In a stunning development, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has dismissed all 17 members of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) a body considered central to the nation’s vaccine policy.
The abrupt purge shocked the medical community, which fears a gap in expert leadership during critical planning for flu season and ongoing disease prevention campaigns. RFK Jr., known for his controversial views on vaccines, claimed the move was part of his plan to “rebuild trust in public health.”
“For too long, the vaccine policy process has lacked transparency,” Kennedy said in a press briefing. “We’re going to fix that.”
Former panelists and health leaders have called the move reckless and politically motivated.
“This isn’t reform it’s sabotage,” said Dr. Cynthia Marsh, a former CDC adviser. “This leaves our public health infrastructure dangerously exposed.”
The Biden administration has yet to comment publicly, and no replacements for the panel have been announced.
