In one of the most bizarre executive actions in state history, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed an emergency ban on the use of holograms in public spaces after claiming he was “haunted” by a life-sized projection of President Abraham Lincoln during a Republican fundraiser in Miami.
“I don’t care if it was digital or spiritual,” DeSantis told reporters. “What I saw was a bearded man in a top hat staring into my soul and shaking his head like he knew what I was doing. That’s not freedom. That’s demonic tech.”
The governor described the incident as “deeply disturbing” and blamed AI-generated holograms for “playing God” and “trying to rewrite America’s identity.” He claimed the spectral projection of Lincoln spoke directly to him, saying only: “You dishonor the Union.”
The Hologram Regulation and Ethics Act (H.R.E.A.), rushed through the Florida state legislature, bans all AI-generated 3D projections in government buildings, schools, concerts, and sports arenas. Exceptions were only made for Disney World, after lobbyists argued Lincoln animatronics were “pre-digital patriots.”
The new law comes after several conservative events in Florida began featuring AI-generated historical figures for speeches including virtual Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, and a widely criticized “freedom hologram” of Martin Luther King Jr. holding a MAGA hat.
Tech leaders have mocked the ban, calling it a “21st-century book burning.” One Silicon Valley exec said:
“If a politician’s conscience is being triggered by fake presidents, maybe the tech isn’t the problem.”
Social media exploded, with hashtags like #GhostOfLincoln, #DeSantisSeesDeadPeople, and #BanTheBeam trending nationwide.
A viral meme shows Lincoln photoshopped in a MAGA hat saying, “I freed the slaves, now I gotta free the facts.”
Paranormal experts offered mixed opinions. Florida psychic Violet Rae told a local news outlet:
“It may not have been a hologram. Lincoln’s spirit has been known to manifest when democracy is in danger.”
Meanwhile, tech blogger Kevin Byte joked:
“If DeSantis is banning ghosts made of light, he better start banning mirrors too.”
The Biden administration declined to comment but reportedly sent a hologram of President Obama to troll DeSantis at a university event, where it opened with the line:
“I’m just here to remind you what a real leader looks like in 3D.”
