Thanks to powerful solar flare activity, the Northern Lights are expected to make a rare appearance in at least 13 U.S. states this week, from Maine to Kansas.
NASA’s Space Weather Prediction Center confirmed that a significant geomagnetic storm is responsible for pushing the auroras further south than usual. Viewing is expected to peak Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
The best visibility will be in rural areas with clear skies. Skywatchers are advised to avoid city lights and check local alerts. Scientists say this could be one of the most visible auroras in the U.S. since 2003.
